Southern Choctaw completed the 2016 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Southern Choctaw captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. Southern Choctaw lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good G.W. Long team by a score of 42-14.

The Indians won as many games as in any season since 2005. It marked the first time since the 2012 season that the Indians qualified for the playoffs. The Indians hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Noland saw improvement as they won ten games following a 2-8 record in 2015.

Since 2010, Southern Choctaw has gone a combined 44-32. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons.
